Randy Gloss, a percussionist
whose background performing several modalities of hand drums, contemporary
percussion, and drum set has led to his involvement in many innovative
ensembles that fuse world music with new music and jazz.
In addition to Hands On’Semble, Randy has collaborated
with: Chitravina Ravikiran (including a concert tour of India that also
featured Brazilian pianist Jovino Santos Neto and master African drummer
Alfred Ladzekpo); a Balkan and Indian music collaboration with maestros
Ashish Khan, Swapan Chaudhuri, Miroslav Tadic, and Vladko Stefanovski;
the Persian group Lian Ensemble; South Indian percussionist Poovalur Sriji’s
Thanjavur and the SNEW Ensemble; Turkish musician Latif Bolat; Romanian
pan flute virtuoso Damian Draghichi; and percussionist Adam Rudolph’s “Go:
Organic Orchestra” and world percussion group Vashti to name a few.
Since 1999, Randy has been on the faculty at the California Institute of
the Arts (CalArts), and also teaches part time at LAMA (Los Angeles Music
Academy).
Teachers have included: John Bergamo, Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, Poovalur
Sriji, Houman Pourmehdi, Guello, Carlos Stasi, Daniel Kennedy, Michael
Lipsey, Alfred Ladzekpo, I Nyoman Wenten, Victor Rendon, Richard Hill,
Edson Gianesi, David Johnson, Arthur Lipner, Wadada Leo Smith, Larry
